The Festival Closing
As Echo Park Rising comes to a close, the entire 5 mile radius let out a deep and long gasp. After 4 days of nearly non stop music and action the exhausting and adrenaline filled event was nothing short of amazing. The pure joy of seeing your favorite band playing on stage is a triumphant experience for not just the bands or their friends but for the casual audience member stumbling in for another drink. This experience rallies many people including myself and is what makes Echo Park Rising such a great moment in time and place. The Echo, The Echoplex, Taix, Shortstop, Lil Joy, Permanent Records, Masa, Lost Knight and so much more are the epicenter for this entire festival. Friends, Family, and newcomers from all over LA and even the world end up in the same spot to come together for this event and celebrate the neighborhood's past, present, and future.
As you stand on the side of Sunset Blvd, the last band hits their last chord… The people are all trickling out at this point and the parking lots grow more and more empty. As i reflect I can't help but notice the many things happening right before my eyes... The bands, the backstage antics, the crowd surfing, the bottomless alcohol that was on tap, the merchandise, the dark rooms and bright lights, the smiles we remember and the smiles you don’t remember all happening at once. The psychedelic revolution of the 60’s is far over and lost in translation, but with this sort of attitude and like mindedness within Echo Park Rising and the Spaceland events we see a shimmering light. With this festival you can have everything you want and imagine all in the same room or street. If Echo Park Rising has taught us anything it is that things are good when everything is happening at once and when everyone is working at the same time. Every band and person is living out their idea of life in front of countless people. We might be tired and exhausted from the 4 days of events but it is a good exhausted. Something you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Something that can only happen within The Echo Park Rising.
